10 Best Countertop Toaster Ovens: Reviews & Comparison

In this article, we’ll show you the best countertop toaster oven, which we consider to be one of the most versatile countertop appliances to date.

These appliances are great for decluttering the kitchen, and with their added functionality, you’ll want to replace your toaster or air fryer. With a moderate internal capacity, most households use their toaster oven to cook lunchtime meals, midday snacks, or sides for their evening dishes.

Toaster ovens often use the same technology as convection ovens due to their built-in fans. Using this fan, hot air is circulated throughout the oven, resulting in faster cooking times and more evenly crisped surfaces for your roasted vegetables or even an oven pizza.

Most of them come with dedicated settings for cooking a variety of meals, such as dehydrating fruit for summer garnishes or broiling mac and cheese to make it bubbly.

Due to their in-built frying baskets, toaster ovens can replace the best air fryers for many people. In order to help you find the best countertop toaster oven for your kitchen, we’ve ranked the best models from Cuisinart, KitchenAid, Ninja, De’Longhi, Breville, and more.

A toaster oven was originally designed to replace a toaster, and some of them even come with modes for bagels and browning settings that can be adjusted to cook multiple slices at once. For those who enjoy artisanal bread that does not fit into conventional toasters, this will be especially helpful.

The Best Countertop Toaster Oven 2022

Choosing the right product for you starts with our expert reviewers testing and comparing products and services. Find out more about how we do that.

This KitchenAid Digital Countertop Oven with Air Fry has a matte black exterior and a glossy steel door, and it’s quite intuitive to use.

Why we love it
A dial on the front of the machine lets you pick a mode and then choose a time, up to 120 minutes. It has a very deep air fry basket that means that you won’t have to flip the food halfway through. Preheat takes just four minutes too.

There are nine modes: dehydrate, proof, bagel, toast, air fry, bake, broil, air fry, and keep warm. There is an easy dial on the right side that lets you choose the temperature, time, and optional convection cooking settings. They are pretty consistent.

Good to know
Although the handle remains cool, the sides of the oven become very hot during operation. The bright LED display is easy to read, and allows for easy switching between minutes and remaining cooking time.

When looking for a toaster oven air fryer that does it all, Breville’s The Smart Oven Pro is your best bet. It has an LCD display that shows pre-heat information, 13 modes with two convection fan settings, including a super convection setting that reduces cooking time by up to 30 per cent and gives great crispness, perfect for air frying, roasting, and dehydrating.

What we like
This toaster oven has an LCD display that is easy to use and has ample capacity to accommodate most families. It features intuitive controls, including frozen and convection buttons. The internal cavity of this toaster oven is coated with non-stick, so it’s easy to clean.

There are 13 modes in total: toast nine slices, bagel, broil, bake, roast, warm, pizza, proof, air fry, reheat, cookies, slow cook, and dehydrate. You can adjust everything from the size of the pizza to the darkness of the toast. A broiling rack, nonstick pizza pan, and enamel baking pan are included.

Good to know
Smart appliances typically come with an accompanying app and have wifi capabilities, but the Smart Oven Pro uses what it calls ELEMENT IQ and algorithms to direct power where and when it is needed, creating the ideal cooking environment using digital temperature control and sensing. It is also available in a number of variations including a smart oven without air frying (Smart Oven), a mini smart oven specifically designed for small kitchens (Mini Smart Oven), and the new Joule guided oven.

A multi-functional countertop appliance, the Instant Omni Plus is a highly versatile air fryer toaster oven.

Why we love it
You can toast, air fry or simply reheat with the Instant Omni Plus. In total, it has features including air fry, broil, bake, roast, dehydrate, reheat, toast, warm, convection, and a unique rotisserie feature. You can prepare a variety of meals with it, and the mesh air fryer basket sits directly on top of the enamel baking sheet to prevent drips. It fed a group of four well and comes with a variety of trays to match your cooking style. Additionally, there’s a wire oven rack for toasting or using your own cooking vessels inside the oven. All accessories are dishwasher-safe.

With a large LED touch screen, it is easy to monitor cooking progress, temperature, and time. As a result of its golden quartz infrared heating system, the oven cooks food up to 25 percent faster. It does have a learning curve, but once you master it, you’ll be able to prepare meals more quickly.

Good to know
We made some of the best chickens in our history using the rotisserie feature, but it was definitely a lot messier than we anticipated. Although the four pound chicken struggled to fit and rotate in the oven, luckily we found some pins to keep it in place. In addition, the attachments to use the rotisserie feature are sharp and bulky, making it difficult to figure out proper storage, especially since they won’t be used every day. A little storage bag would have been helpful.

As compared to other Instant products, and toaster ovens, it did take a little longer to pre-heat. The handle does get a little warm after prolonged use, so you should use a mitt to open it.

The De’Longhi toaster oven is known for its classic and quality designs; it has seven cooking modes, including air frying, and the slanted front makes it easy to see the food as it cooks.

Why we love it
The De’Longhi Livenza Countertop Oven is great for broiling because the top shelf fits nice and close to the top of the oven. Three dials are used to control the time, temperature, and function of the oven. With its removable crumb tray and non-stick interior, the De’Longhi Livenza Countertop Oven is very easy to clean, and the 0.8 cubic foot internal capacity is well-designed to maximize all four shelves.

The slanted front of the De’Longhi Livenza Countertop Oven makes it very easy to use. The internal light enables you to see your food as it cooks. The controls are also intuitive for those who are new to toaster ovens.

Good to know
If you’re looking for a well-made and reliable toaster oven, we think you’ll find plenty to like in the De’Longhi Livenza Countertop Oven.

As a Wolf Gourmet product, the Wolf Gourmet Countertop Oven is among the very best of the toaster ovens we tested for this guide.

Why we love it
Convection settings can be toggled on or off on this countertop oven, so that you can toast or braise with it. In addition to being easy to use, the temperature probe can also be adjusted to add some extra char to steaks without compromising on their juicy interior.

There are settings for baking, roasting, broiling, toasting and bagel, as well as proofing, which will work well as a replacement for bread makers. This toaster oven has been tested by Terri since 2020 without any problems, and if the warranty is anything to go by, it is built to last.

Good to know
It may be out of reach for some buyers, but if you can afford it, this well-built machine is every bit as luxurious as you might imagine.

This Ninja Foodi 8-in-1 Digital Air Fry Oven with its special space-saving Flip-Up design is ideal if you live in a small home and want to speed up meal times.

Why we love it
The Ninja Foodi 8-in-1 Digital Air Fry Oven comes with eight modes, including air fry, air roast, air broil, bake, bagel, toast, dehydrate, and keep warm. Even though it won’t compete with full-sized air fryers, it can still accommodate a 13 x 13 inch baking tray, and it comes with two inserts that can be used for baking or air frying.

In addition, it holds nine slices of toast and four pounds of chicken wings. It has a flip-away design that makes it great for small homes, and a crumb tray that makes it easy to clean.

Good to know
While it won’t look as stylish on the countertop when leaning against the backsplash, it’s totally worth it for convenience. It is easy to clean the underside of the toaster oven since it lifts up, so those who plan to use it as their main toaster oven will appreciate the easy access to the underside. The cooking height is also narrower than other machines, so keep that in mind when cooking bulky food such as a whole chicken.

A mid-sized oven with a wide range of settings, the Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven can bake, air fry, convection broil, and warm.

Why we love it
The controls are incredibly straightforward, and you can simply turn the dial to add or subtract time from your cooking cycle. Because it’s a dial, it’s very hard to find the exact temperature.

We cooked an entire chicken which came out crisp and delicious using the Cuisinart TOA-60. Nuggets finished in just 7 minutes, and pizza in just 10. This is a great alternative to a conventional oven.

Good to know
The fries weren’t as crispy as we were used to, and the toast needed to be turned halfway through cooking to be evenly browned.

Toaster ovens from Ninja look very modern. With 1800 watts of power, the Ninja 10-in-1 XL Pro Air Fry Oven has 10 times the power of conventional convection ovens, and has ample space with a capacity to cook over two levels and hold a 5lb chicken and a sheet pan of vegetables, two 12in pizzas, or a 12lb turkey. Even the preheat time is lightning fast, at 90 seconds.

Why we love it
There are two wire racks, two sheet pans, an air fryer basket, a roast tray and a drip tray, which enable you to customize any meal.

This oven features a touchscreen display, so you can control it easily while air frying, roasting, baking, dehydrating, making pizza, and toasting bagel.

Good to know
If you have a large family to feed, the Ninja XL Pro may be enough to replace your oven. The controls are a bit fiddly, but overall it appears to be reliable.

Despite the health benefits of steam cooking, which leaves food juicy and tender without the need for oil, we expect to see more countertop appliances with this feature in the future. The Fotile ChefCubii focuses on those features you’re most likely to use instead of tons of others. It can steam, bake, air fry, and dehydrate and acts as a convection oven and steam oven, and has steam-bake mode, air fry, dehydrate, grill, reheat, toast, proof, and rice cooker functions.

Why we love it
The countertop oven is versatile and easy to use and maintain. As for steam cooking, a portable water tank/drip tray slides into the bottom of the appliance, and it is indicated when it needs to be refilled.

We preferred to cook according to the 40 presets that guide the user through tons of recipes; they’re even printed on the interior of the door so you don’t have to pull out the manual to find out which number to scroll to. In addition, the sleek, glossy white finish makes a welcome change from stainless steel.
Good to know
The door is made of two layers of tempered glass and one layer of low E glass, which seal very tightly, but these make the door overall difficult to open. The oven’s top needed to be stabilized with one hand while the door had to be opened with the other. We were informed by Fotile that the ChefCubii is equipped with a damping setup on the door for additional compression and seamless closing of the unit (in the corners, metal hinges).

It has pre-programmed recipes that will guide you through the cooking process step by step, and it can be controlled remotely from an app if you are not an experienced home cook. It even has built-in cameras to monitor your food, along with a thermometer to make sure your food is always cooked to perfection.

Why we love it
Through the touchscreen panel at the front of the oven, you’ll be guided through everything from setup to cleaning, and the oven even blow dries itself clean, which we hadn’t seen before. No matter what we made in this oven, it turned out to be perfectly cooked every time, from cookies to pork chops.

Good to know
In testing, we noted that this oven’s compatible app subscription does require quite a hefty ongoing cost at $120 annually. For premium attachments such as the cast iron griddle and air fry basket, you’ll also have to pay an additional $120 annually. Given how expensive this oven is, that’s a shame, but there’s no comparison when it comes to smart technology, and it’s well worth the price if you want something to do your cooking for you.
