Best Deer Hunting Blind Heater Reviewed and Rated
1. Mr. Heater F232000 MH9BX Buddy 4,000-9,000-BTU
Among the heaters on this list, Mr.Heater Buddy provided us with enough heat without making a noise or smelling. With 9000 BTUs available, the heater buddy is more than sufficient to heat up 225 square inches of space. It also has some great safety features.
The heater is equipped with a built-in shut-off mechanism that turns it off if it falls or if it detects low oxygen levels. This heater provided excellent heat and did so in a pleasant, non-disturbing manner. Its only downside is that the bottle did not last as long as we anticipated.
2. Mr. Heater F215100 MH4B Little Buddy 3800-BTU Indoor
Introducing another great heater from Mr.Heater. With the Big Buddy, you can heat up 300 square inches of space with its extra power. It’s very similar to the Buddy, just bigger. We had our ground blind completely warm in just 10 minutes after starting the heater.
3. Mr. Heater F274830 MH18BRV Big Buddy Grey Indoor-Safe
It produces 38000 BTUs, which is more than enough to heat up a 95 square inch blind or tree stand. As the name implies, it is a compact heater that weighs only 6 pounds and stands about a foot high. You can get about 5.5 hours of heat on a 1-lb propane tank, and if you need more, you can just bring a second one.
We liked the Little Buddy’s design. The porcelain-coated surface ensures that the heat is well distributed through the hole. It points 45 degrees upwards, so that you can point it directly at your face or upper body and get a nice breeze of warm air at any time.
As with the larger buddy versions, it features an auto shut-off if either the heater tilts or oxygen levels drop. The little buddy does not have any adjustment knobs to adjust the temperature, so it is either on or off. In spite of this, we found it to be the most portable and best-performing heater in its size and price range.
4. Mr. Heater F242915 MH45T Triple Tank Top Heater
A simple and heavy-duty heater, the Mr.heater Three burner features a propane tank with three heating elements.
You can attach a propane tank on the heater that is 1 to 100 lb, so you can heat your ground blind for tens of hours if you choose. It has a heater with 45 000 BTUs, but you can adjust the heat with a knob. You can choose between low, medium, and high heat settings.
A match-lit ignition can be used with either of the three heating elements. The control panel allows one heating element to be active at a time or two heating elements at a time.
The propane attachment on this heater enables you to heat up to 500 square inches efficiently and for a long time.
There have been incidents where Mr.Heater has spit fire at Amazon users. We haven’t experienced this, but it’s something to be aware of since it can be hazardous. In addition to this, there were a few users who complained that their heater only worked for a month, which proves that there is a lack of quality control in their manufacturing.
However, the MH45T is recommended for large spaces that can accommodate larger tanks.
5. Texsport Sportsmate Portable Propane Heater
This portable version from Texsport can keep you warm for up to nine hours. It has less power than the Mr.heaters with barely 2900 BTUs compared to the Mr.heater little buddy with 35000 BTUs. Although it produced less heat than we expected, it worked when it was close to us.
It’s a simple and small heating solution that works great in smaller hunting blinds with its 45 degrees design. Over 600 happy customers rate it 4.4 out of 5 on Amazon, making it one of the most popular heating solutions for hunters in single or duo ground blinds.
6. Texsport Portable Outdoor
It’s a simple design that offers only the necessities without any of the extra features and benefits of the other heaters on this list.
Even so, the Texsport Portable outdoor heater is capable of heating up a small ground blind if you want a simple and budget-friendly option. Several customers on Amazon have reported problems with the heater, so we recommend it if you have the budget for Mr heater’s little buddy, but if you need a quick and cheap solution to your heating problem, the Texsport is a good choice.
How to Choose the Best Deer Hunting Blind Heater
The use of a ground blind heater can make your hunting experience more enjoyable and comfortable. I have used both with and without heating elements, and I have always preferred the use of heating elements.
The modern heating produced today makes no noise or smell, so there are no downsides to using one. Deers or other animals do not have night googles for detecting heat.
How do you choose the right ground blind heater and what should you look for? Let’s find out!
According to this article, the power or BTU of the ground blind heater has a huge impact on its efficiency. As mentioned above, the higher the BTU, the more heat you will get from it. However, we have also seen heaters providing a comfortable amount of heat with just 3000 BTUs, such as the Sportsman from Texsport.
The heating element can lead to a hire in the worst-case scenario, so security measures are a must. Look for features such as auto shut-off, which in most cases will turn on when tilted.
The oxygen levels in your ground blind are prevented from dropping by some brands, such as Mr.heater. Obviously, it works, but we don’t know how they do it, but it gives you peace of mind. Having this feature gives you peace of mind, since you know that you’re covered.
You can use rocks or any solid material to support the heater if your current deer ground blind heater does not have these features.
Keep the windows open at all times to ensure there is adequate airflow into the ground blind to avoid low oxygen levels.
We suggest you spit in a few extra bucks if you have the luxury of doing so. Generally, price and quality are correlated.
Because most of us will use these heaters every hunting season, it’s nice to have one that provides you with sufficient heat, is durable and safe. Since it is truly a great heating element, you will often find it recommended in forums and websites such as this because of the fact that it provides all of these requirements.
Ease of use
If you’re considering purchasing a ground blind heater, ensure it’s easy to set up and use. Since you won’t set it up all too often throughout the year, it’s not a necessity, but we’ve seen products where you have to manually shut off the propane tank in order to stop it from running. Although most heaters today can get pretty tiring after a while, this is sadly the case.
The most honest user of a product is the customer, which is why you should listen to them when you have found the product that meets your budget and needs. It is very easy to read about people’s experiences and thoughts on a product on platforms such as Amazon, so use it to your advantage to find the best product.
All the products on this list have gone through this process.
A hunter’s stealth requirement is critical. Luckily, there are several great products on the market today that produce a great amount of heat while remaining quiet.
Having a heating element that is silent and does not make any smells will increase the chances of a successful hunt. We tested a few heaters, but some produced a burning odor and others made beeping noises or fan noises that were far from ideal for hunting.
During a hunt, you should make sure these heaters are both silent and do not emit any funky odors.
You can increase the comfort of your ground blind by adjusting the heat output of the heating element with an adjustable knob or control panel.
In an article such as this or reading on Amazon, you can easily figure out if the product does or does not work for you.
It’s not a requirement, but it’s nice to have.
Type of heaters
On the market today, there are two types of heaters: electric heaters and propane heaters. In garages and other small areas with an electrical outlet, electrical heaters can be great, but for hunters, a propane heater makes the most sense, since it will last you longer. At least for those of us who don’t have power outlets.
Can these heaters be used in a tree stand as well?
Although this is a review of deer blind heaters and duck blind heaters, all of these heaters can also be used for tree stands. Our recommendation is to go for a heater that is more powerful and bulkier than what you would find in a ground blind if you are primarily using a tree stand. A good example of such a heater would be the Mr.heater big buddy or buddy, both of which suit well for tree stand hunters.
Tree stands are more susceptible to wind and harsh weather conditions, so we recommend choosing a more durable heater.
How to avoid low oxygen levels in the ground blind
If you have such a heater, you should not have to worry about this, but there are certain instances when you need to take care of it.
You should have some sort of airflow into your ground blind if your heating element does not have this feature. A CO detector can be handy equipment that can alert you if oxygen levels are too low during your hunt. Leave a window or zip open to ensure that you get enough oxygen during your hunt.
Whatever the hunting blind heater, you should always make sure you have adequate oxygen levels by either maintaining a constant airflow or having gadgets to alert you if oxygen levels are below optimal.
Why should you buy a ground blind heater
When you consider the benefits, you can get a premium heater for about $100 thanks to efficient manufacturers and clever designs.
As hunters, we spend several hours watching, wouldn’t it be awkward if a deer suddenly strolled by but our fingers were too cold to shoot?
In the cold, sitting for an extended period of time isn’t fun at all. A heater can provide both comfort and happiness throughout your hunting season.
It is easier to pack a compact heater instead of packing five layers of clothes. They are lightweight and do not take up much space.
The benefits of having a ground blind heater are many. I’m sure your friends will thank you if you purchase a good ground blind heater.
It can be difficult to decide which ground blind heater to buy, but with our best ground blind heater, you should be at least a step closer to making your decision.
