The Western North Carolina Alliance is the most experienced grassroots organization in the region, working with communities across twenty-three counties on the issues that matter most to sustaining our natural heritage.

Our collaborative work among community groups, government, and private industry often catches the public eye. The Alliance also works to engage citizen voices in the media to speak out for keeping our forests healthy, our air and water clean, and our communities vibrant the media.

In April 2011, WNCA executive director Julie Mayfield’s editorial in the Asheville newspaper argued against proposed regulatory reforms that would weaken environmental protections: “Before Congress passed environmental laws in the 1970s, we lived amidst pollution that nobody wants to see again.”
